We have an upcoming service for 5 unclaimed veterans on Oct. 14th at 10 am at Fort Smith National Cemetery. This is open to the public.   Unclaimed means, no one cared what happened to them when they passed away.  One of these veterans has been sitting on a shelf forgotten for 37 years!
These unclaimed are from the Sabastian County Coroners Office. The purpose of the MIA Project is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations. To provide honor and respect to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.

The Missing in America Veterans Recovery Program (MIAP) (EIN: 20-8408832) is a Federal recognized Non-Profit Veterans Organization for the identification, location, verification, and movement of Veterans and their Dependents

We are also having a poker run the next day, Oct. 15th to raise money to find more unclaimed veterans around the state and into Oklahoma.  We are seeking donations for the poker run also.
I have also identified 3 more from the group at Edwards funeral home.  2 are spouses, one of which we will see gets buried with her husband at Fort Gibson in OK, and another that her husband is in a cemetery in Fort Smith.
I would greatly appreciate any publicity you can give us.
Thank you !!
